On architects is located in the natural surroundings of Ulju-gun, Ulsan, which was a deliberate choice in order to best reflect the firm’s aspiration towards an architecture that mirrors nature. Working within nature, it is believed that their senses naturally integrated into the architecture. In the design process, the aim was to express the richness at the simplest spaces. This experimentation included various indoor and outdoor spaces that connect with nature, and the use of inexpensive materials in diverse ways. Functional aspects of the office are all segregated into different zones, requiring movement through outdoor spaces to access other areas. As rural areas diminish in the wake of industrialisation, On architects thought that if a young knowledge industry like them is located in rural areas, it could be a new solution for rural revitalisation, and they were determined to prove it.
