1996. – 2001. Establishment of the Anyang City amusement park development and planning committee (permanent institution) and development plans launched

2003. Request made to Anyang City for the establishment of an architecture museum by the Anyang Regional Civil Solidarity and architects before relocation of the factory

2004. 7. Closure of the factory after the business relocated

2004. 8. The launch ceremony of the Pan-Citizen Task Force for the Cultural Preservation of YuYu to announce the bid of 30 billion KRW to fund the Pan-Citizen National Trust Movement ¢º

2006. 7. The Mayor of Anyang, a number of personnel, municipal and regional politicians along with the Pan-Citizen Task Force visit the factory site to discuss how it might be repurposed 

2007. 5. The acquisition of the Anyang City factory grounds and the Korea Culture & Tourism Institute establishes the ¡®Basic framework plan for utilizing the YuYu industrial estate¡¯

2009. – 2014. The launch of the remodeling design competition (winner, JU Architects & Planners) and the opening of the museum

 

​¢º Anyang Citizens established a task force demanding the ¡®Preservation of the YuYu Pharma, Inc. Factory as a Cultural Heritage¡¯, launching the movement to acquire land

The Pan-Citizen Task Force for the Cultural Preservation of YuYu officially announced on the 10th that ¡®Anyang City should seek to transform the YuYu Pharma, Inc. Factory into a cultural space, and that YuYu Pharma, Inc. must return the cultural heritage points found inside the factory to its citizens¡¯. The Pan-Citizen Task Force also announced their ¡®active pursuit of a national trust movement to acquire land from the people in order to preserve cultural heritage¡¯. ¢º Enactment of the Act On The National Trust Of Cultural Heritages And Natural Environment Assets (23 March 2006)

Choi Byungryeol (principal, Anyang Regional Civil Solidarity) who participated in the Pan-Citizen Task Force, stated in a call with SPACE: ¡®While it has not been ratified, the act on the national trust, which has been actively discussed at the national assembly since 2004, has been a driving force behind the Pan-Citizen National Trust Movement in the bid for 30 billion KRW made by the Pan-Citizen Task Force.¡¯

 

¢º YuYu Pharma, Inc. Factory: Trapped in the ¡®Headache¡¯ of a Catch-22

The Pan-Citizen Task Force for the Cultural Preservation of YuYu have confirmed in a meeting with company personnel by visiting the Seoul headquarters of YuYu Pharma, Inc. on the 25th. [¡¦] Professor Choi Seungwon of Sungkyunkwan University noted that ¡®YuYu Pharma, Inc. Factory is an ¡°architectural masterpiece¡±, designed in 1957 by the world-famous late architect Kim Chung-up, and is rated highly in architectural academic circles for its preservation value as a cultural asset, considering the scarcity such projects thoughout the country¡¯.
