Durak Ovac©¥k is a user-conscious bus stop designed under the guidance of local craftsmen. It¡¯s Plankton Project¡¯s first project in partnership with the Ovac©¥k Municipality, an establishment known for maintaining an alternative approach to municipal services. Throughout the process, the team practiced designing from a distance and sourcing materials in what the locals call a ¡®deprived region¡¯ while gaining experience from working with people in disciplines outside of academia. Beyond facilitating the construction of a much-needed public amenity for the people of Ovac©¥k, this volunteer effort has also provided an opportunity for students and recent graduates of architecture to gain practical on-site experience. Enabling the design team to engage in a design and build scenario and making it possible to observe the interaction between the actualised product and its end user, as well as working in such a different geographical terrain, all made this project even more valuable.

Ovac©¥k Municipality Plankton Project In an environment confined to a conventional perspective where the ¡®potential of architecture¡¯ is neglected, Plankton Project stands out as a collective belief in the significant impact of small-scale subjects, allowing for an approach consisting of laboratory research where they can create their designs informed by these subjects. Plankton Project was established by nine design students in 2015 with a municipal bus stop project and went on to collaborate with various civic groups operating around Türkiye. With a focus on bringing an alternative approach to traditional place-making practices, Plankton Project expands and shrinks to accommodate persons from various disciplines according to the necessities of each project.
