An ¡®scholar¡¯s accoutrement¡¯ is a kind of Joseon Dynasty folk painting that consists of tightly organised stacks of books arranged in a zigzag pattern alongside colourful everyday objects, all arranged accordingly in a study. Ceramics, writing tools, and stacks of books bound in slipcovers, all reveal the knowledge and dignity of a Joseon scholar, are freely placed within the a gridded bookshelf to create a still life that enlivens the entire canvas. The scholar¡¯s accoutrement are beloved by all as paintings of one¡¯s own worldview and cultural identity, capturing aspects of everyday life and the scholarly spirit of the Joseon Dynasty in its variegated grids.

Kim Dongjin
Kim Dongjin graduated from Hongik University with a bachelor¡¯s degree in architecture and worked at SAC International, Ltd. He studied at the École Nationale Supérieure d¡¯Architecture de Paris-Belleville. Since 2000, he has been the president of L¡¯EAU design Co., Ltd. and since 2005 he has been a professor of architectural design at the graduate school of architectural engineering at Hongik University. His major works include Gongju Park Adhocracy, Nonhyun Matryoshka, Cheongdam March Rabbit, Jeju Bayhill Pool and Villa, and Cheongdam Bati-¤©. He has won numerous architectural awards including the 31st, 38th, and 42nd Korean Institute of Architects Awards, the 25th and 33rd Seoul Architecture Awards, the first Young Architect Award, The Architecture Master Prize in 2019 in the U.S., and the Iconic Award 2015, 2022 in Germany. He has been invited to participate in domestic and international architectural exhibitions such as the 2016 Venice Biennale ¡®The FAR Game¡¯, and the 2014 Berlin International Exhibition, ¡®Seoul: Towards a Meta-City¡¯.
