Located on the hill behind Dongwha High school, the D Pavilion is a small shelter and open-air stage in which students can engage freely with outdoor activities. The structure situates itself within nature, preserving old trees and rocks nearby as much as possible. The space has been created as if the rock formations had been piled one on top of the other on top of the hill, and imagined as a place for open discussion and cultural exchange – where students can freely perform and speak to one another.
The polygonal vertical structures support a single roof. The large vertical structure has a space inside, which serves as a small storage unit to keep equipment used for the outdoor stage. The flat concrete roof creates a gap upon contact with the vertical components – implying that the structure was not built as a single monolithic form, but by lifting the components and laying them on top of each other.
