To me, it was fantasy — the classic model of fantasy. During my childhood, I had to go through the front room where my father used to work in order to get
to my house. The front room smelled like cigarettes, and I had to quickly get across in order not to be harassed by my good-fornothing uncles. Upon climbing up the stairs that led outdoors, I would see the doghouse for Ttorri (rough collie + Sapsali) and a tap fountain by the stair landing, and a rattan pergola and a rusty swing; memories of my real home. Although I was born in Youngsan, Changnyeong county, Nokbeon-dong, Seoul feels like
my hometown.
After walking along the walls facing the two sides of the site, one is suddenly brought into a narrow path. There is a small gate, but nothing else has changed. Another narrow path is revealed. The path turns moist past the staircase. I climb up the external staircase to the second floor, leaving handprints on the workroom¡¯s glass windows, and finally arrive at the living room and the image of my true home.
