The results of the Design Competition for the Chuncheon-si Health Center Relocation and New Construction Project were announced last year on Dec. 13. The goal is to improve the region’s underdeveloped healthcare provision by constructing a new health complex on a scale of 9,045m² at 97 Soyang-ro 4-ga, and on a site with high accessibility for local residents. A design competition addressing these needs was held last year Sep., detailing design requirements to expand healthcare and medical facilities with a community-friendly design that harmonise with the surrounding environment. The winning proposal by The SAAI (principal, Lee Jinoh) + SIENA Architects (principal, Hyun Jin) features a layout whereby two building masses are connected by an internal corridor, creating both a front and rear courtyard. This design was praised for fulfilling the recent demand for openness of public institutions in the fact that ‘it allows the internal movement of users to be visible from various external spaces.’
