As the frequency and intensity of disasters continue to rise due to global climate change, the role of architects and urban planners has become more crucial than ever. The forum ¡®Disaster, Architecture, and Community,¡¯ co-hosted by UNIST CISAR, Listen to the City, and the Gaudí World Foundation, will explore how architects can contribute in times of crisis.
Pritzker Prize-winning architect Riken Yamamoto, group of young Spanish architects After Estudio, and Eun Sun Park, director of Listen to the City, will deliver keynote presentations. A panel discussion will follow, featuring Hyomin Kim (UNIST CISAR), Sofya Abramchuk (Gaudí World Foundation), Dongwoo Yim (Hongik University), and Doyeon Diana Kim (Sustainable Environment Renewable Architecture).

Riken Yamamoto
A Pritzker Prize-winning architect, Riken Yamamoto has dedicated his career to community-based architecture, particularly in response to the Great East Japan Earthquake. He is currently involved in disaster relief efforts in Venezuela.

A group of young architects based in Valencia, Spain. Following the devastating floods in Valencia in 2024, which claimed over 230 lives, they participated in post-disaster building damage assessments as part of a research initiative at Valencia College.
Eunseon Park @listentothecity
Director of Listen to the City and a Ph.D. holder in Urban Engineering with a specialization in disaster management. She will present case studies from Korea, Spain, and Japan, focusing on the role of communities in disaster response, vulnerable populations, and temporary housing solutions.
