The International Competition for the Pyeongtaek-si Administrative Town ©HAEHN Architecture + KG Engineering & Architecture
On Nov. 28, Pyeongtaek City selected the design proposal from Haeahn Architecture Inc. + KG Engineering & Architecture as the winner of the International Competition for the Pyeongtaek-si Administrative Town. Pyeongtaek City needed to integrate the city hall and the city council, and so a competition was organised to establish a functional and communicative structure and increase accessibility and efficiency via relocation to Godeok International New City. The winning design proposed a park- like public building that not only embraces nature and culture but also includes – as requested in the competition guidelines – a daycare centre, convention hall, and café. The lobby which is open to pedestrians and the work areas which are separated from the plaza in terms of flow movement are connected by a void to realise functional requirements and facilitate communication with the local citizens. This new city hall project with one basement level and five aboveground levels and a total floor area of approximately 51,403m is scheduled for completion by 2027.
