On June 21, ¡®Rising Wings¡¯ was selected as the first prize winner of the ¡®Gadeokdo New Airport International Design Competition¡¯ held by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. The design, jointly submitted by Heerim Architects & Planners Co., Ltd. (CEO, Jeong Youngkyoon), KeunJeong Architects & Engineers (CEO, Kim Jongmoon), and NOW Architects (co-principals, Kim Suhweon, Park Byungwook), is based on an H-shaped floor plan. The exterior structure of the roof was given a symbolic meaning by the W-shape of the word ¡®wings¡¯, and the louver structure of the interior skylight was designed with Korean motifs as well as nature motifs according to the configuration of the space, adding to the beauty of its formation. The plan maximised efficiency by proposing measures to reduce construction costs. The HAEAHN Architecture Consortium as the runner-up will be given the right to design the ancillary facilities, including the control tower. Construction is scheduled to being in June 2025 with an opening date of Dec. 2029.
