Jinju City, which recently held a series of design competitions to build tourism infrastructure using the waterfront landscape of Jinyangho Lake, announced the winning entry on June 18. For the ¡®Design Competition for the Jinyangho Sunset Observatory Development Project¡¯, a project to renovate the old observatory, the design by WISE ARCHITECTURE (co-principals, Sook Hee Chun, Jang Youngchul) was selected as the winning entry. The existing arc-shaped building and another new arc-shaped building were arranged to face each other to form a circular structure, and a sky park was placed in the centre to create a sense of enclosure and comfort. It was highly acclaimed for finding the ¡®charm of the land¡¯ that had been overlooked in the competition guidelines. For the ¡®Design Competition for the Jinyangho Complex Cultural Space (Sounds Sunset) Development Project¡¯, a project to regenerate the harbour area, the masterplan by Monogram (principal, Kim Joyoon), was selected as the winning entry. Described by the jury as a ¡®design of tranquillity¡¯, it was favourably received for minimising architectural intervention through a deep interpretation of the site. For the ¡®Design Competition for the Jinyangho Ecological Management Center Development Project¡¯, the ¡®Nature Observer¡¯ designed by Design Company others.A (principal, Lee Youngjae) was selected as the winning entry. The restrained composition of massing and the use of timber structure are a visual reminder of the centre¡¯s purpose, which is to protect ecological diversity. The aforementioned winning entries will be given preferential agreement for concluding the contract for the schematic design, design development, and construction documents phases.
