On Mar. 25, Daegu Suseong-gu nominated PARKKIM (co-principals, Kim Jungyoon, Park Yoonjin) and junya.ishigami+associates (principal, Ishigami Junya) as winners of Suseongmot Lake Floating Stage and Suseong Bridge Development International Invited Design Competition, which are projects for the 2024 Suseong International Biennale (covered in SPACE No. 672). The winning work of the Floating Stage, ¡®Suseongmot Floating Hills¡¯, takes a form of a hill topography from nearby mountains floating on the water like flower petals. The main stage, which is approximately 500m2 in size, is horizontally aligned with the water level and therefore naturally connects to the scenery, and the water stage is built at a level lower than the water level, making it possible to produce unique performances using water. In addition, this proposal was highly praised for including a water park and providing an open space for multi-purpose operation for days with no performances. The ¡®New Deuran-ro Road¡¯, the winning design for the Suseong Bridge with a pedestrian path of approximately 160m in length, goes beyond the simple function of a bridge and proposes a new form of space utilization. The simple structural design is a pedestrian bridge, as well as an observatory, and connects to the city by encompassing cultural facilities such as cafés and galleries. The juries thought highly of the bridge¡¯s expansion of its role to connect to the surrounding urban environment, and its simple yet flexible design to accommodate diversity. A budget of 28.6 billion KRW and 14 billion KRW is respectively invested for the development of the stage and bridge, and after basic design and construction design early this year, aims for construction commencement in 2025 and completion in 2026.
