Exhibition view of ¡®PARKSEOBO MUSEUM JEJU by Fernando Menis¡¯
The Park Seo Bo Foundation (PSBF, formerly GIZI Foundation) is celebrating the construction of The Park Seo Bo Museum of Art in Jeju with the exhibition ¡®PARKSEOBO MUSEUM JEJU by Fernando Menis¡¯. The late Park Seo Bo, the founder of the ¡®Dansaekhwa¡¯ movement, initially had plans to build an art museum in his hometown of Yecheon-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do, but those plans fell through. In the course of events, JW Marriott Jeju Resort & Spa (hereinafter JW Marriott Jeju) proposed the construction, and the museum¡¯s groundbreaking ceremony took place last March. The Park Seo Bo museum is now being constructed within the grounds of JW Marriott Jeju in Seogwipo-si, Jeju. The exhibition ¡®PARKSEOBO MUSEUM JEJU by Fernando Menis¡¯ showcases the design process, blueprints, and renderings of the Park Seo Bo Museum of Art in Jeju, which is slated for completion in the latter half of next year. The design of the museum is entrusted to Spanish architect Fernando Menis, who is from the Canary Islands. Inspired by the introspective nature of Park Seo Bo¡¯s notable Ecriture series and by the volcanic landscape of Jeju sharing similarities with his native Canary Islands, Menis has crafted a space dedicated to Park Seo Bo¡¯s works. The exhibition was held from May 16 to June 28 at ARTBASE 26SQM, a non-commercial gallery operated by the PSBF. ARTBASE 26SQM is located on the first floor of GIZI (2018, covered in SPACE No. 622), designed by Cho Byoungsoo (principal, BCHO Partners). Additionally, by making a reservation through the PSBF¡¯s website, visitors can also visit the second-floor gallery of GIZI, where the works of the late artist Park Seo Bo are exhibited.
