On Mar. 2, the open final jury meeting was held for the Junglim Architecture Award for Student 2024, entitled A House for All: Today’s Architecture for Earth’s Tomorrow. Seventeen teams presented renovation scenarios to support coexistence with all creatures on Earth, and judges Kim Jeongim (principal, Seoro Architects), Cho Jaewon (principal, 0_1 Studio), and Choi Jin-Woo (eco-activist researcher) selected five teams for the awards. The team ‘How Shoud We Live?’, consisted of members Jo Beomhee·Lee Jihun·Lee Yunji, raised a question concerning the Cheonggyecheon Stream area and whether it is truly a place for everyone, after witnessing a contradictory scene where Cheonggyecheon Stream, an ecological stream, and a pet store coexist. On this matter, they proposed a plan to return all areas below Cheonggyecheon Stream to non-humans and use upper areas of shops for human beings, under the premise that pet shops will phase out and will be made illegal. ‘This Open Space is Private’, by Park Jae-A·Chung Minji·Kim Hyerin, is a proposal to give up underutilised outdoor public space to non-humans and create indoor space for humans. This proposal points out the danger for non-human creatures in occupying space together, and showed that coexistence can be possible by observing each other in each individual's own area. Cha Youngwon·Kim Yeonji·Jang Hyeonji focused on the ‘wood wide web’, an underground ecosystem shared by fungi and tree roots, and proposed ‘Public Room; toilet’, a prototype of an ecologically circular public toilet. Lee Kiberm·Roh Jihwan proposed ‘Form Ruins to Roots to Dwelling for All’, a return scenario for a rural village, showing that the natural wildflower periods can be shortened through human intervention. Kim Joun·Jang Juyoung·Chung Seyoung proposed ‘Made in Hyehwa’, a Marrronier Villa renovation plan including the process of growing and processing of scrubbers, an eco-material.
