On Dec. 15, 2023, the Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) announced Sosol Architects + KAWA DESIGN GROUP Architecture + Soltozibin Architects + BAUM ARCHITECTS as the winners of the design competition. This competition was promoted to build Korea’s largest library complex with a GFA (gross floor area) of 25,000m2 to become an open community hub for citizens. SMG has put forward a requirement to apply wooden structures to major parts of buildings. The winning design LIVE-RARY proposes an ecological matrix concept, building a network of relationships. The unit structure system consisting of steel columns, waffle-structured roof, and wooden structures expands flexibly. To the west of the library, projecting a sloped terrain, is the rooftop terrace connecting to the ground; the entrance is to the east greeting visitors.
