On Aug. 1, the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) conducted an evaluation of the Design Proposal Competition for the Quang Tri Province, Vietnam Community Based Rehabilitation Center. This competition aimed to promote the construction of a regional community-based rehabilitation centre with approximately 4800m2 of floor space, spanning from the first to the fourth floors. The selected site for this project is a 10,000§³ area in the southern urban development zone of Dong Ha City in Quang Tri Province, Vietnam.
The winning proposal was submitted by Soltozibin Architects (principal, Cho Namho). Cho Namho¡¯s plan stood out for its deep understanding of the unique climate and spaces in Vietnam, beginning with fundamental questions about climate ethics and architecture. Additionally, a unique feature in the design is the use of the entire spacious site, planning the building as a two-storey structure that will facilitate various activities on an accessible ground floor. This approach received praise for promoting activities on the ground floor while limiting the potential for expansion. However, the judging panel also expressed jointly that alternative solutions should be explored for the proposed aluminum louvers on the façade.
