SPACE August 2023 (No. 669)
On June 13, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced Moreless Architects (principal, Kim Youngsoo) as the winner of the Jungnangcheon Our Neighborhood Waterfront Art Playground Project Proposal Contest. The target site is the Junggok Rainwater Pumping Station. It is a rooftop space with an area of about 680m2. The project aims to provide a new urban space for residents of Gwangjin-gu, where there is a significant lack of accessible waterfront space compared to other areas, with a variety of activities connected to the river. Moreless Architects created a cantilevered space on the rooftop to increase appreciation of the facility, and an entrance yard at the lower part to connect the pathway leading to Jungnangcheon and the facility’s ramp. The design of the staircase space for views of the Jungnangcheon River and the elevation ramp that actively connects the city and the water received positive comments from the jury. (by Youn Yaelim)
