On Mar. 31, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced the results of the Nomination and Proposal Design Competition for Seoul City Hall Main Building¡¯s Civic Open Space. The project aims to develop the civil affairs room located on the first floor of the Seoul City Hall Main Building (hereinafter Seoul City Hall) into a more open space and provide a rest and leisure area. The winning team, GUBO Architects (principal, Cho Yoonhee) + Hong Jihak (professor, Chungnam National University), focused on a plan to restore the urban fabric, making the three separate office buildings of the Seoul City Hall clearly visible from the ground floor. The rectangular façade adds a cityscape to the interior of the Seoul City Hall and separates secure and public spaces. The jury praised the project¡¯s ¡®logical analysis of the urban context¡¯ and ¡®meticulous architectural consideration for a comfortable visit¡¯.
