On Mar. 31, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced the results of the Nomination and Proposal Design Competition for Seoul City Hall Main Building’s Civic Open Space. The project aims to develop the civil affairs room located on the first floor of the Seoul City Hall Main Building (hereinafter Seoul City Hall) into a more open space and provide a rest and leisure area. The winning team, GUBO Architects (principal, Cho Yoonhee) + Hong Jihak (professor, Chungnam National University), focused on a plan to restore the urban fabric, making the three separate office buildings of the Seoul City Hall clearly visible from the ground floor. The rectangular façade adds a cityscape to the interior of the Seoul City Hall and separates secure and public spaces. The jury praised the project’s ‘logical analysis of the urban context’ and ‘meticulous architectural consideration for a comfortable visit’.
