SPACE April 2023 (No. 665)
SPACE held the student reporter completion ceremony and orientation at Feb. 28. SPACE have long run a student reporter scheme that provides experience outside of architectural design to undergraduate and graduate students in the field of architecture, culture, and art. Beginning in 2001, with the first cohort of student reporters, to this year, with 16 new members selected for the 18th student reporters, we saw the activities of the 17th cohort of student reporters come to an end this Feb. The event to commemorate the end of the 17th and the beginning of the 18th student reporter cohorts was held at EAGON HAUS, the showroom of EAGON head office. Kim Jeoungeun, the editor-in-chief, who opened the event by noting, ¡®I have been with SPACE since the first intake of student reporters¡¯, presented certificates to the 17th student reporters, and the 17th intake of student reporters had time to report on their activities over the past year. They reviewed a wide range of activities, such as writing an article on the RE:UKRAINE SYSTEM, a modular temporary housing project for Ukrainian refugees, and documenting disappearing architectural heritage with the video series ¡®Tracing Forgotten Spaces¡¯. Many students empathised with student reporter Jin Sangwon, who suggested that they ¡®learned the most from the process of receiving corrections on the articles I wrote.¡¯ Student reporter Lee Minhyung added, ¡®It was amazing to be able to cover such a wide spectrum of architectural work.¡¯ SPACE selected and awarded four student reporters who demonstrated the most outstanding abilities. Afterwards, the introduction of the 18th intake of student reporters followed, and the official schedule came to a close by announcing their future plans and electing a leader to represent them. Due to pandemic, the face-to-face event whereby all the student reporters gather took place here for the first time in three years. As social constraints in the wake of the pandemic continued to be eased and daily life is slowly returning to equilibrium, it is expected that this intake of student reporters will engage in a wide range of reporting activities.
