On Dec. 20, 2022, the results of the Architectural Design Competition for the Expansion of Public Storage for Artworks organised by Jeju Special Self-Governing Province were unveiled. The target site is Hangyeong- myeon, Jeju-si area (18,481m2), located at the south side of the Jeju Museum of Contemporary Art, adjacent to the existing Public Storage for Artworks. The winning architects Haengun-siwoo Architects (co-principals, Kim Jonghyun, Koh Eunjin) presented a reinterpretation of a stone warehouse of Jeju. The judges praised the fact that the storage facility—which is inevitably huge due to its function, is segmented and arranged into several masses, and the harmonious distribution of materials such as stone and concrete. Parts of the expanded public storage will be designed to be an open storage facility for public use. Regarding this project, Lee Nayeon, the provincial director of Jeju Museum of Art, noted that, ¡®With the introduction of a visible storage space, it is expected that public storage will become a new cultural attraction.¡¯
