On Nov. 23, 2022, Hwaseong City announced SHIN architects (co-principals, Shin Hosoub, Shin Kyungmi) as the final winners of the the Design Competition for (tentative name) the Maesong Residential Convenience Facilities. The competition, which was promoted to develop sports and cultural facilities for the residents of Maesong-myeon, required a design that would accommodate various facilities, such as a swimming pool, sauna, and a gym. The site area of the competition is 1130m2 and the total floor area is 3060m2, with two basements and four floors. The judges said that this competition was ‘a difficult brief to interpret and propose, due to the complex programme and the number of parking lots’, and evaluated the winning proposal as ‘the most constructively built entry and communal space despite the limited space’. Based on the winning project, (tentative name) the Maesong Residential Convenience Facilities plans to go through the construction document phase and begin construction by Aug. 2023, and be in operation from 2025.
