On Nov. 4, 2022, Gangwon Provincial Office of Education selected aoa architects (principal, Suh Jaewon) as the winner of Design Competition for Green Smart School of Mukho High School. As part of the Green Smart Future School project, this competition was promoted to create a sustainable learning space and school environment by reconstructing outdated facilities. The site is Mukho High School located in Donghae-si, Gangwon-do, and a design plan was required to expand and reconstruct a three-story main building (3,076.79㎡) as a four-storey building (3,935.4㎡). The winning proposal consists of plans in the figure of 8 organically connected to the existing school building and courtyards which allow us to experience outdoor space in various ways. The jury committee praised the functional connection between the existing building and the new extension, two courtyards to create diverse exterior spaces, and a proposal for a new type of school architecture suitable for Green Smart. The main building of Mukho High School is scheduled for completion in the second half of 2023 with about 9.4 billion KRW.
