The Design Competition for the Platform of Comprehensive Support for the Art Industry On Sep. 26, the Korea Arts Management Service selected yiwayim architects (co-principals, Lee Doeun, Yim Hyunjin, covered in SPACE No. 616) as the winner of the design competition for the Platform of Comprehensive Support for the Art Industry. The Korea Arts Management Service wanted to create a platform supporting artistic activities in a comprehensive fashion, from art creation and production experiments to demonstrations, distribution, and start-up in the Twin Tree Tower (covered in SPACE No.522) near Gwanghwamun Gate. The total area of 4,430.1m2 divided across 5 floors was assigned for remodelling, and it was to match the Twin Tree Tower with a 3-dimensional curved surface of the curtain wall and to plan for the space supporting the various convergence of arts activities. The proposal of yiwayim architects was highly commended for its comprehensive understanding of the theme of integrating the arts with technology as well as for the formal elements to be found in the existing space. Yoon Seunghyun (professor, Chung-Ang University), the chairman of the review committee, commented on the winner, saying that ¡®it has a sensuous spatial design that exhibits the characteristics of comprehensive supporting space for artists and art business, in addition to excellent utilisation of the organic space¡¯.
