On Jan. 21, Buyeo-gun announced the design competition results for the construction of the Buyeo Public Library and Living Cultural Centre and Cultural Park. The winning work is 'ON(OVER) THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE' by Stpmj (co-principals, Lee Seungteak, Lim Mijung) + Team Hitchhiker Architects (principal, Lee Kyungyong) + HEA (principal, Baek Jonghyun). It presents a system that responds flexibly to changes in the location of the ruins by minimising the area on the first floor and lifting the main programmes to the second floor. This work was praised as an appealing and grounded proposal, responding to the variables in the excavation of cultural assets, increasing the availability of external space in consideration of this location, and integrating the library’s unique functions with other neighbouring facilities.
